Generosity

One of my co-workers brought these plants in for me yesterday: a columbine (blue), two hostas, some bee balm, and a hardy mum. They were dug from her yard and her mother's yard with me in mind. I am thrilled!

I only got two of them planted last night (the two hostas) before I received a phone call from FF asking for help. The belt on his car had snapped, so I had to pick him up at the car parts store (he'd walked there from the gas station where his dead car awaited) and take him to get his tools from his work van. By the time I got back home it was dark. I guess that just gives me more time to think about proper placement. I'm prone to digging holes and plopping plants any old place. I should really consider the best place for the bee balm though because I think it spreads easily?

I LOVE getting plants from people - normally the people giving me plants knows more about them than I do - so their choices are always perfect (whereas I usually buy a sunloving plant and try to put it in the shade - and vice versa). Lately I have been hearing about bee balm - I think I need some of that. :) And I agree - it would be difficult to take the plants on the bus - some buses have this little area where you can put strollers and bags and things but others don't. LOL. Hope you make it on the bus eventually. :)

Don't ask me! You know far more about plants than I do. The hostas are the only ones I even recognized. How nice of your coworker, though! I dread getting plants because I know they won't survive me..

How nice! I was told never to thank people for a gift of plants, but dunno if that admonition still holds in our modern day. Supposedly if you say thank you, they might not grow! HUH? I would think gratitude would HELP them grow!

anything in the mint family has a tendency to spread. Good to plant them in a bucket or tub or planter or in an island surrounded by grass or in an herb garden.

Bee balm spreads VERY easily. Feel the stem, what shape is it? (I know the answer already) This indicates it is in the mint family and will spread. But it is beautiful and has a place in most gardens-mine too! How nice to be gifted with plants.
