Other Forms of Recycling

Esme has been regressing. When I first got her she did not mess in her crate at all. But now she will pee even if she's only in there for 4 hours. As a result I have to change her towel/blanket twice a day. I don't like running the washing machine unless I have a full load, so I decided what I need is more doggie bedding. I posted a sign in the kitchen at work inviting people to bring me their old towels or baby blankets. I would like to avoid having to buy new items for this purpose.

The next day I found a plastic bag in my mailbox when I came in. I assumed it was for the doggies until I opened it up and found 3 articles of clothing and a note from my boss asking if I liked them. Her sister is as big a shopper as she is but had decided these items weren't practical for the Texas clime. Since they didn't work for my boss she brought them in for me to try. One is a lovely, soft, brown shawl-type sweater that I adore. I haven't tried the others on yet because I am so enamoured with this one.

No one has brought me any doggie bedding yet though. Perhaps they are reluctant to air their "dirty laundry" in front of a co-worker?

It's a towel for Christ sake. Ha Ha. But it was a great idea to post the note as you did. I wouldn't have thought of that. I would have just hung the dog by a body leash from a clothes line.

LOL! It has taken us a few years to build up dog bedding and towels we use to dry off their muddy paws - but we finally have a good amount. Just took time to build up - many of the towels were not my colors and were given at the time of my high school graduation - over the years I phased them out and the dark colors are perfect for cleaning up muddy paws without looking like they are too dingy. I would look into garage sales - they often have old blankets etc that would be perfect for dog bedding! And it is that time of year again!

I think we were on the same wavelength today ... "other forms of recycling." Glad to hear the clothes found a loving home, hope you get your doggie bedding! We use old towels too, usually my parents' from 15 years ago or something. One of our dogs actually loves being wrapped in the terry cloth when it comes in from the rain. The other, not so much.

Post a 'wanted' on Freecycle for old towels! I bet you'll get a boatload!

I ran into the need of large towelly rags before. I found a bunch of cheapies at the Salvation Army. They usually have a whole rack of them at most thrift stores. Oooh! You should post it on Freecycle. You'd be shocked how many people reply to posts like that!!!!!

Aieee-yi-yi, I threw away literally TONS of old blankets and towels when my mother died and when I moved.

And I moved some here. Too bad yr so far away, I'd be happy to donate to a worthy cause.

Did you try freecycle?

Also, you might be able to get them cheap at Salvation Army etc if worse comes to worst.

I second the free cycle as there are always offer and wanted posts for items that would be suitable for that in our area.

sounds like a very pretty shawl.
