The wonders of vinegar

I continually mention how I draw inspiration from fellow bloggers. While reading These Days in French Life, I happened upon a post in which Riana sings the praises of vinegar. I was intrigued but not overly motivated until my host teacher shared with me an article about a science fair project about dirty laundry. I did some web surfing and bought some vinegar (yes, it's true, I did not even own any vinegar!) and started adding it to my laundry. My laundry smells good (no residual vinegar smells) and static cling has been much reduced. I don't use dryer sheets or fabric softener, so it's both economical and environmentally friendly. The killing of poop-bacteria is less tangible, but I'm sure it's helping that too. I do all of my laundry on cold, so I feel better adding the vinegar. Especially since I am regularly washing dog blankets and towels.

I may also try using vinegar to clean, but well, I'm not in any rush to take up cleaning. Ha!

I use vinegar in my laundry, too - shoot, that reminds me I forgot to send you the soapnuts! Sorry, I'll get on that when I get upstairs.

Vinegar works great for killing the weeds in our driveway cracks too (required by our community association). We buy it by the gallon!

I have not used vinegar in my laundry, but I do use baking soda usually in my whites on hot. I'll have to try the vinegar. I do use vinegar and water to mop hard surfaces and in a sprayer around sinks and countertops. Not a grease cutter but it does remove water spots/minerals and makes faucets and sinks shine. Also soak my faucet heads in vinegar about twice a year to clear out the minerals. Vinegar for weeds? Thanks for that recommendation Smellyann! Cool!

Not white vinegar, but raw cider vinegar is good for you, too. To eat I mean.

When I was a kid, they didn't have conditioners, or not many, anyway, and we rinsed our hair with vinegar after shampooing. (Or lemon juice, but lemons weren't usually available in the winter back then when we had to walk to school barefoot in the snow LOL)

Uphill both ways? My mom tells me about the same journey to school when she was a child. Are you also a baby boomer?

If you catch the cleaning bug; try mixing baking soda and vinegar to help remove stains.

ps. glad to hear you have some time to garden.

I love cleaning with vinegar. It has really cut down on our cleaning product purchases - saving us money and probably being more effective and safe for our health than the products we were using. I use a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the kitchen and bathroom floors and counters - it is a great deodorant and disinfectant and can be used for so many thing! Kill weeds, clean carpets, etc, etc!
