Not Ready

On my second trip outside with Paulie this morning, we walked about halfway down the block. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was bright, the air was crisp and cool (about 39 degrees F). A red maple was in full glory, the crimson leaves still clinging to the branches and settling on the dew-covered ground. I counted the houses I walked past whose furnaces were sending plumes of steam above the roofs. I love mornings. But I'm not ready to turn the furnace on.

No I haven't turned the furnace on yet either, I mean the heat. There was FROST here this morning.

Are you walking Paulie and Mr. Rochester separately?

I am so not ready to turn on the furnace either. At Concord we were always able to put it off until November, but I'm starting to realize just how much we were benefiting by being in the second floor flat with neighbors running the heat both above and below us. We're going to have to pay for our own heat here. Brrr!

Mr. Rochester gets confused about being out there lolly-gagging around. He's very goal-oriented, so once he does his thing, I either let him back inside or leave him inside altogether. Besides, Paulie seems to "perform" better solo.
