The New Dog

At a customer's house, my fiance made the acquaintance of Joey, a young Maltese. After spending some time with the happy-go-lucky, lovable dog, his owner offered to give my fiance the little guy. About a week later, and after much thought on the part of both families, the purebread Maltese has joined our family.

We have renamed him Paulie because of the over-use of the name Joe in both of our families. He is adjusting to life with us and our small zoo. Nosey hasn't even seemed to notice him, or doesn't seem to care. Mr. Rochester can't decide if he's a cat or a dog. Vermont, on the other hand, seems fairly alarmed. But he's the baby in the family and has never had a new pet introduced to the family.

Paulie is a little horndog who has a "red teddy" as girlfriend. Hopefully, when we get him neutered, he will lose some of his desires. He is a jolly little companion who looks forward to meeting his extended family when they have the opportunity.

Oh, my goodness! I thought for a moment I was on the wrong blog. I almost stopped by your house around 1 pm yesterday after I got out of my second interview, but I thought you prolly weren't home yet from the birthday party. And who knew there was such an exciting reason to pop in?

Are he and Mr. Rochester playing together yet, the way Mr. Rochester trys to play with Vermont? How big is Paulie? Smaller than Mr. Rochester, right? How young is he? Is he still growing?

I forgot to say he's cute. But, that's implied, right?

Ah well. Considering the birthday party didn't start until 1pm, you would not have found me at home.

Paulie, like every other creature who encounters Mr. Rochester, does not know what to make of his pawing action, so they have not really done any playing.

I think (hope) he is full grown. I'm thinking he is 1-2 years old. I had his medical records faxed directly to the vet, so I'll have to wait until I take him in to find out all the details (dur). He is maybe 5 lbs. Small, fluffy, and full of energy.

WOW!!!What a surprise. How exciting. Is Mr. Rochester jealous?

Not really. Possibly a little, but right not he's actually reaping the benefits- extra treats, more walks, etc.

Paulie is neither submissive nor aggressive, so there haven't been any of those types of problems so far either. Knock on wood.

So cute--is it stillworking out OK other than the exhaustion factor?

Yup, he still complains mightily when we put him in the kennel at night, but other than that things are running more smoothly with each passing day. (Knock on wood.)

Do you walk him and Mr. Rochester together or separately?

a/k/a Nadine said...

Both. He requires going out more and sometimes seems distracted by Mr. Rochester, so the initial walks are together and then we take Paulie out again solo to concentrate.
