Work has slowed down considerably. It's back to "busy" work for too much of the day. I can't stand trying to look occupied.
As usual, I've been keeping an eye on the job postings. There's one I've been thinking about applying for since last week. It one grade higher and pays significantly better. I can't help but wonder if I should talk to my boss about it. I'd have to use her as a reference anyway, and she would know if it's a good work environment and whether it's even worth my time and yada yada yada. But I don't want her thinking I'm hellbent on jumping ship. That can't be good come review time.
I hate that everything boils down to money. And the fact I need more of it (who doesn't?). This is the best job I've ever had, and I'm still just barely scraping by.
So do I try to find something that pays more but might be even less enjoyable, or do I just stick my head back in the sand?

I say talk to the boss. You are not jumping ship. It’s part of your career development. It shows you have ambition and a desire to learn something new and pick up more responsibility – hope that didn’t scare you off.
Just tell her you are interested in the new position and ask her for her opinion and recommendations. She was in your place at one time and should understand your interest. Just make it clear that you are not trying to get away from her, just wanting to advance and develop yourself.
If that doesn’t work, break down and cry.
I think coffeypot left some good advice. LOL!
I think you should tactfully ask.
Don't slam any doors. Don't burn any bridges. If you hate the new job, can you come back to the old one?
Sorry you're bored.
Ditto on coffeypot's comments. Re-emphasize that you are not looking to jump ship, you are simply exploring your options. Your boss will likely respect your candid approach.
Remember that when you have more money, you spend more money, and often times it feels like you still don't have enough. Think about what really makes you happy.
I'm going to jump on the Coffeypot-is-right bandwagon. This is the best job you've ever had because of the faboo benefits, right? Not because you love every minute of every day. You've given them several busy seasons now. I think inquiring politely after an upwards transfer would be understood and respected. When you ask your boss, lead in by saying, this is the best job I've ever had. If you make like you are asking her advice, she will feel flattered, hopefully.
I tagged you on no Polar today for a six weird things meme--maybe you already did it--how about 6 new weird things?????? Oh well. XOX
Good point, Berrybird!
